What is PicoSure?

PicoSure effectively lightens and erases tattoos of all colors with zero downtime. It is the most advanced laser technology that is FDA-approved for fast, safe and effective removal of all tattoos.

What are the benefits of PicoSure?

PicoSure releases the same quantity of energy as a Q-Switch laser in one picosecond (trillionth of a second), establishing it as the fastest and most efficient laser option for purposes of tattoo removal in addition to treating acne scars, hyperpigmentation and wrinkles (fractional laser resurfacing).

The fastest lasers produce the least heat: excess heat emitted from slower lasers may damage the skin and result in scarring. PicoSure is so swift and precise that it doesn’t burn sensitive, vulnerable tissue.

Our PicoSure laser dissolves ink particles into finer portions than a Q-Switch laser or other competitors which accomplishes faster ink absorption, shorter treatment times and a more thorough removal.

How does PicoSure work?

NYDG offers complimentary consultations for tattoo removal so that patients can meet with our experts to assess their candidacy for PicoSure and project treatment outcomes. Best results depend on the tattoo age, size, color and location among other factors that may impact successful elimination of tattoo ink from the body.

Clients are offered complimentary numbing of the targeted area prior to PicoSure treatment. 15-30 minutes later, clients are comfortably situated for lasering of the desired area. PicoSure sessions typically last 5-20 minutes (contingent on size and number of tattoos treated).

Pulsed picosecond energy is focused on the tattoo, systematically breaking down targeted ink deposits. Compromised ink particles are naturally eliminated as they metabolize and exit the body, resulting in gradual lightening and removal of tattoos.

Once numbed, there is minimal discomfort associated with PicoSure treatment. Clients typically report a dull stinging sensation.

How many PicoSure laser sessions will remove a tattoo?

The number of laser treatments required to remove tattoos varies on an individual basis. Treatment plans are determined by variables such as tattoo age, size, location and each client’s metabolism (which dictates the rate of ink elimination and healing). During the complimentary PicoSure consultation, our experienced practitioners evaluate the status of unwanted tattoos and provide a realistic timeline for removal. Most cases involve 3-6 PicoSure sessions spaced about 6 weeks apart to allow for complete metabolism of ink particles. Each client and their respective tattoo responds differently to laser treatment.

Post procedure care

Post-procedure, the treated area is dressed in pain-relieving ointment and bandaged. The bandage may be removed within one to two hours and at-home care is simple; washing with antibacterial soap and keeping the area protected with Aquaphor are recommended for at least one week post-procedure. The tattoo will be sensitive to touch and any mild swelling will dissipate within a few days.
