Microblading & Powder Brows

The World of Permanent makeup has come very far in the past ten years. Now we can achieve very natural results, with pigments that fade and do not leave behind unflattering colors. There are two styles of treatment that are both very natural and give different effects. Please keep in mind that microblading is not good for every skin type.

What is Microblading?

It a form of cosmetic tattoo performed specifically on the eyebrows. Like earlier methods of cosmetic tattooing, it is done by manually depositing pigment slightly into the second layer of the skin. The special hand tool allows the artist to create fine hair-like strokes in the skin.

Microblading is suitable for anyone with dry skin, normal skin and generally under 40 years of age.

What are Powder Brows?

Powder Brows is a semi permanent makeup technique designed to create eyebrows with soft powder effect, very similar to powder makeup. Powder brows is done with a shading technique using a permanent makeup machine. This technique is more gentle than microblading and can create a very soft natural effect when done right. This technique has more predictable healed results in the skin compared to microblading which can be more fragile, sometimes healing perfectly in the skin and other times fading after the first session.

It is good for basically all skin types (see contraindications below), unlike microblading. Microblading does not heal as well for oily or mature skin types and usually cannot be done over previous work, if not faded enough.

Often the best techniques is a blend of the two, to create a natural but lasting result.

What is the process?

Before the appointment, avoid alcohol the night before and caffeine the morning of. Stop seasonal allergy medication a couple days before as well as fish oil and do not take aspirin same day before the appointment, after is ok.

The consultations are built into your appointment. When you come, we can discuss what is best for you depending on your skin type and aesthetic. Before anything is done, we thoroughly discuss what you are seeking, then we map the brows, drawing the shape that will then be tattooed. There are no surprises here, you will see exactly the shape you will be getting. I choose colors to match your hair, and am conservative in shape and color choices.

How many sessions do I need?

Permanent makeup is usually a two-part process for both microblading and powder brows. We will schedule your touchup appointment around 6-8 weeks after initial session.

Does it hurt, and what is the healing process?

We use topical numbing to make sure you are comfortable during your treatment.

It takes about 10 – 14 days to heal before you can do heavy exercise and sweating, take long steamy showers, and go swimming. The area will be fully healed 30 days after the procedure was done. You can get the skin wet, but you should immediately pat it dry.

How long does it last?

It really depends on the client and the health of their skin, but these procedures should last anywhere from 1 to 3 years. Microblading is not supposed to last forever and will require touch- ups when the pigment begins to fade. The brows may also require a color boost after some time, to freshen up and restore the ideal color.
