Winter Skin Care Tips
Winter brings cold weather, arctic winds, and chapped, dry skin. It is very important to protect the skin from cold temperatures with warm clothing and warm gloves for the hands. Don’t forget to apply chapstick for the lips.
Dry skin is prone to rashes, itching and fissures (breaks in the skin surface, like on fingers and lips).
To make sure you avoid these problems, avoid washing your hands, face and body with hot water. So, as tempting as it is to take a steaming hot shower on a cold winter morning, turn down the temperature- your skin will thank you for it.
Liquid bodywashes and body soaps can be drying. So use a gentle soap like Dove bar, Basis, or Cetaphil.
Exfoliate the face with a salicylic acid wash and exfoliant pads to remove the dead skin layer and reveal healthy new skin. Be sure to apply a sunscreen moisturizer to the face when going outside both to avoid the effects of cold air and to protect your skin from harmful effects of ultraviolet radiation.
For daytime, a quickly drying gentle moisturizer is a wonderful treat for the arms and body. Don’t be afraid to reapply it when you’re at work or outside, or when your skin feels dry.Most of us forget to drink enough fluids- but water and juices are essential to hydrate the skin and prevent it from drying out. So be sure to carry a water bottle and drink 6 glasses of water per day.
We also live and work in dry environments, with forced dry heat that sucks moisture away from the skin. So get a humidifier for the office and the bedroom to replenish the moisture and rehydrate your skin while you sleep.
