Microdermabrasion
What and Why
Microdermabrasion is a non-thermal and non-chemical mechanical skin resurfacing technique. (As the prefix suggests, microdermabrasion is less aggressive than dermabrasion, which is suitable for deeper skin defects.) During microdermabrasion, a precision handpiece containing rotating crystals is carried across the skin and gently removes old dead skin cells, revealing a fresh new layer. This process helps the skin renew itself and maintain its natural health. Microdermabrasion is effective for:
-Reducing fine lines
-Minimizing "crow's feet,"
-Clearing age spots and acne scars
-Stimulating the production of new skin cells and fresh young collagen.
Microdermabrasion can be used for cosmetic reasons—to ‘polish’ the epidermis so that the surface skin glows with clarity and good health—or it can help improve chronic medical conditions like acne and rosacea.
Who and When
Microdermabrasion is ideal for both men and women who want to achieve clear, fresh and healthy-looking skin. In our NYDG signature skin treatments, The Triad Medical Facial and Pedicure Triad, Microdermabrasion is the first phase, as it clears the skin and preps if for further treatment like Laser Toning. Like chemical peeling, this is a skin renewal process that improves appearance and contributes to continuing skin health. It can be used on an occasional basis or, for optimal results, in regularly repeated sessions. The procedure is painless and has no major side effects. Any redness or swelling is invariably short term. No anesthetic is required and there is no downtime. Microdermabrasion is effective for all skin colors and types.
