Laser Hair Removal
Another function of laser light is laser hair removal, the permanent depilation, or grooming, of unwanted or unruly hair. Our Coolglide Laser Hair Removal system can be used on any area of the body, including the beard (where men regularly use it to maintain ‘the five-o’clock shadow’ favored by film stars and celebrities). The procedure is also effective for upper lip, underarms, chest and bikini areas. Laser hair removal usually requires repeated sessions, and the dermatologist or the dermatologist’s trained laser technician determines the number of treatments needed. Patients are advised that laser hair removal is a medical procedure that requires knowledge, skill and experience to perform, so a certified medical facility with proven equipment is strongly recommended over a non-medical spa. After a consultation with the dermatological staff, a program of treatment is devised and laser hair removal sessions are scheduled at regular intervals in the appropriate number to achieve the desired effect.
NYDG FLASH FACTS
-
A dermatological consultation is required prior to laser hair removal. Not everyone is a candidate for the procedure.
-
For safe and effective laser hair removal, the patient’s hair should be darker than the skin surrounding the hair to be removed.
-
Darkly pigmented people are not ideal candidates for laser hair removal; tanned patients often must wait until color fades before beginning treatment.
Laser offers permanence and control over most other methods of hair removal.
